High craft with an artistic flair.

My mother had impeccable taste. Whatever she chose to wear, decorate, or cook, it was understated and elegant. Her house was filled with beautiful handmade items. Instead of talking about craft she patiently allowed the craft to speak for itself. By osmosis I have absorbed and assimilated her style and her appreciation for fine craft, fine fashion, fine food, and fine decor. My mother’s aesthetic and support for decorative and functional handmade items has covertly, over a lifetime, guided me to where I stand today- a maker of well crafted functional ceramic art.

I am on a one-person mission to convince others to explore the layers of satisfaction that can be experienced from choosing, owning, caring for, and using handmade wares. Artists and collectors share a commitment to making and supporting high craft. My studio time is spent diligently and patiently striving for perfection. Creating high craft requires a resolute determination to sacrifice quantity in pursuit of quality and creativity. Like geologic change, handmade wares take more time to create than factory made goods, and time is the currency that separates the two. Owners of well crafted everyday art recognize the passion, effort, love, and soul that time affords it. They recognize that each handmade item they own is precious. Collecting and curating handmade art also takes time. Hunting for and finding the perfect treasure satisfies the urge we have to develop a personal aesthetic. The journey of discovering these treasures provides a sense of accomplishment. As an owner of hand crafted art, collectors become supporters of a community of artists and craftspeople who endeavor to enrich society with creatively made objects that can comfortably share space with their owner. My hope is that my mission will lead you to either an entry point for- or a continuation of- a quest for and an appreciation of everyday objects that are beautiful and well made.

We all prize beauty. We all value creativity. We all admire skill. We all aspire to live an elegant, plush life. Making and owning finely crafted, creatively conceived, skillfully hand-made objects is a step in the direction of our quest toward leading the glamorous life we picture ourselves living- like the life my mother led.
